About the Program
The RGS Umpire Program is open to all youth ages 10 and up. The umpire program is a educational program designed to teach life skills to all participants. Consistent with our recreational philosophy, the umpires in this program are part of the League’s efforts to support youth development. Most of our youth umpires are current and/or former players in the League, many of whom are currently playing at the high school level.

Umpire Training
Each umpire is given a minimum of 15 hours of training prior to officiating their first game. Follow-up sessions are held throughout the season to reinforce proper techniques, answer questions, and evaluate performance. Training for umpires is held in January, February and March, and includes both classroom and field work. Umpire training concludes with practice games. Coaches and Managers are also invited to attend umpire training in order to better understand the job of the umpire and/or the league rules.
